IPO allotment timeline (SEBI T+3)
Since December 2023, every IPO in India follows SEBI’s T+3 timeline, where T is the day bidding closes. Each step happens on a working day:
- T (issue closes): last day to apply. Bids close in the afternoon.
- T+1 (allotment): the registrar finalises the basis of allotment. Status usually goes live in the evening.
- T+2 (refund and credit): money is unblocked for applicants who got no shares, and allotted shares reach your demat account.
- T+3 (listing): shares start trading on NSE and BSE.
How IPO allotment works for retail investors
When an IPO is oversubscribed in the retail category, shares are allotted by a computerised lottery. Every valid application has the same chance of getting the minimum lot, whatever amount it bid for. That is why a 50x subscribed IPO gives only about one in fifty retail applications a lot. The “retail chance” on each card above is worked out from the official subscription figures and the number of applications, where these are published.

FAQs
How do I check IPO allotment status by PAN?
Open the registrar's allotment page for your IPO (or the BSE or NSE status page), choose the IPO name, select PAN, type your PAN and submit. The page shows the number of shares applied for and allotted.
When is IPO allotment status announced?
Under SEBI's T+3 timeline, the basis of allotment is usually finalised on the first working day after the IPO closes, and the status goes live on the registrar's website that evening.
Which website is best to check IPO allotment?
The registrar's website is the official source because it finalises the allotment. BSE and NSE also show your status for issues listed on them. Your broker app usually updates a little later.
What happens if I do not get an IPO allotment?
The blocked amount is released to your bank account through the UPI mandate or ASBA by the second working day after the IPO closes. Nothing is debited if you get no shares.
When will allotted IPO shares show in my demat account?
Allotted shares are usually credited by the second working day after the IPO closes and can be sold from the listing day, the third working day after closing.
Why does the allotment page say 'record not found'?
Usually the status is not out yet, the wrong IPO or exchange is selected, or the PAN does not match the application. Wait a few hours after allotment, check the registrar and the exchange, and confirm the PAN used in the bid.
How can I improve my chances of getting an IPO allotment?
For retail investors, allotment is by lottery when an IPO is oversubscribed, so each valid application has the same chance. Applying for more than the minimum lot does not improve it. Separate applications from family members' own PANs and demat accounts each enter the lottery.
