Stock market jobs for freshers
Most people start a stock market career in one of four entry roles: equity dealer, relationship manager, operations executive or mutual fund advisor. Brokers hire freshers for these roles all year, often graduates from any stream, as long as they hold the right NISM certificate and can show they understand how the market works.
- Get certified before you apply. NISM Series VIII for dealer and RM roles, Series VII for operations, Series V-A for mutual funds. Each costs about ₹1,500 and can be cleared in a few weeks of study.
- Expect a modest start. Freshers in dealer roles reported about ₹1.4–4.2 lakh a year on AmbitionBox. Pay rises quickly with skills, certificates and a move into research, advisory or senior dealing.
- Prepare for practical interviews. Expect questions on order types, margins, option basics and today’s market. Read the news before every interview.
- Use internships. Short internships at brokers and research firms often turn into full-time offers.

- Key skills
- Chart reading, indicators, position sizing, risk control, a written trading journal and emotional discipline.
- Salary
- Varies widely. Prop trading roles often combine a small stipend with a share of profits, so ask exactly how pay and losses are handled.
- Certificate
- No single required exam for a desk role. If you publish buy or sell views to the public, you need SEBI registration as a research analyst, which needs NISM Series XV.
Common interview questions
- Show us a setup you traded: entry, stop-loss and target.
- How much of your capital do you risk on one trade, and why?
- What do you do after three losing trades in a row?

How to get a job in the stock market
Most stock market careers in India start at a stock broker, a research firm, a mutual fund house or an exchange. Employers look for three things: a relevant NISM certificate, real understanding of how orders, margins and derivatives work, and the ability to explain markets clearly to clients.
- Pick a role first. Dealer, research analyst, relationship manager and operations roles each need different skills and certificates.
- Clear the right NISM exam. NISM Series VIII opens most broking roles; Series XV is the base for research analyst jobs.
- Practise on real markets. Interviewers often ask you to read a chart, explain an option chain or value a company on the spot.
- Apply widely and early. Use the search above every week, since new stock market jobs are posted daily.
FAQs
How do I get a job in the stock market in India?
Pick a role, earn the NISM certificate it needs, learn how markets and trading terminals work, and apply to brokers, research firms and AMCs. Entry roles like dealer, relationship manager and back office are the most common starting points for freshers.
Which NISM certificate is needed for a stock market job?
It depends on the role. Dealers usually need NISM Series VIII, research analysts need Series XV, mutual fund distributors need Series V-A, back office roles need Series VII and compliance roles need Series III-A. Check the job post for the exact requirement.
Can a fresher get a job at a stock broker?
Yes. Brokers regularly hire freshers as dealers, relationship managers and operations executives, especially candidates who already hold NISM Series VIII and understand order types, margins and F&O basics.
Are work-from-home stock market jobs genuine?
Some are, but many scams use this label. Avoid any job that asks you to pay a deposit, buy a course to get hired, trade with your own money or share your trading login or OTP. Genuine employers never charge you to apply.
What is the difference between a research analyst and an investment adviser?
A research analyst studies companies and publishes research reports with views on securities. An investment adviser gives personal, fee-based advice to individual clients. Both must be registered with SEBI to offer these services to the public.
